"Midnight Card Massacre" was produced and shot on Dec 5th, 2009. It was a very rushed shoot, but considering the compact time it was better than expected. Unfortunately as the night wore on my actors became more drunk from booze & beer, but luckily no one fell on their face, or on the equipment, which is most important! Throughtout the night many methods were tried in filming especially with the kill scenes. The first beheading was most interesting because the shadow effects came out very nice. All I used for that was a stack of vhs tapes, a stool and a football stand to pull off the head falling off of Maxine's body, and oh yeah a melon for her head of course!
The most creative scene of "Midnight Card Massacre" was doing Satan's enterance because a lot was involved with that. The camera settings had to be changed repeatedly because of the strobe light's speed. As a result the shutter speed was re adjusted to accomadate for the light. Next after that was the smoke machine. Between the smoke machine and strobe light Lucifer's enterance was most successful as a visual concept! Interesting note: my short film can cause seizures for those who have epilepsi, so if you have this affliction do not watch Lucifer's enterance however, you can watch even if you do because I am not responsible for the consequences...enjoy!

Maxine Loses her Head!
A razor sharp knife is best left to a professional...KILLER!
"Midnight Card Massacre" is what I would consider a cult type of movie. It's a campy romp that has some humor and is best watched with others. It is geared towards horror fans; however, at the same time it can appeal to those who like suspense. The story consists of four people who are involved in a poker game. At first it seems like any normal game except after the first person loses the audience witnesses a player's head getting chopped off by an executioner!
From this point on suspense builds as the next player to lose is shot! The skull in the middle of the poker table is a symbolic piece because it gives you a hint before each death. The skull is where each player that loses must draw a death card. The most dangerous thing about a card game used to be running out of beer, but not anymore because these players have to try and stay alive until the end.
The winning player (last one of the original 4) gets to play Lucifer, who is the reason they are playing this game in the first place. Each of these players are really not alive in a sense of the word. It is their souls that are in this card game. Each player is playing so as in order to be brought back to life, instead of going into the fiery depths of hell!
The last remaining player Jason, must face off against Lucifer in one final hand to decide it all. If Jason wins he is brought back to life, but if not... well you get the picture. Lucifer's entrance into the game is most memorable with smoke flooded throughout and very grisly lighting which increases the terror felt in this scene. The last hand takes a change however, with Lucifer changing the format of the game. Instead of 5-card poker he plays indian poker (which is where each player takes only one card and puts it on their forehead).
Of course at the end Lucifer wins because there's one thing that is impossible. It is not possible for you to play your way out of hell once your time has come. Each players time had come. It was just a little fun and torture on Lucifer's part to let them believe they really has a chance at winning, which they did not!
This film features a cast of unknowns for the most part. Featured actors are Trish Siatta (Mary), Larry Baumer (Executioner) and Bradley Creanzo (Lucifer). This film was done as a class project.
